Once your kids start to wear braces, the more it is important to give emphasis on effective yet gentle kids dental care (ทำฟันเด็ก, this is the term in the Thai). While braces can correct a variety of oral issues, not maintaining a good oral hygiene with your braces on can lead to another issues such as gingivitis and halitosis, to name a few. Kids dentist (หมอฟันเด็ก, term in Thai) should not be put aside, much more be given importance.
Maintain a good oral hygiene
Brushing their teeth religiously is recommended for patients wearing transparent braces. Clean the teeth and braces on all surfaces with a soft-bristled toothbrush and, if possible, use high-quality toothpaste such as the one containing fluoride. Brushing should be done after ingesting foods that can cause staining like coffee and soda, to name a few. Another way to get rid of oral bacteria is to rinse your mouth with a strong antibacterial mouthwash.
Keep the braces clean at all times
Maintaining good dental hygiene is just as vital as keeping one’s clear braces clean. The type of transparent braces will determine the cleaning schedule. When cleaning braces, you should use a soft toothbrush and cleaning product especially formulated for braces, especially clear braces. You have to use warm water when rinsing the aligner. Avoid using hot water as it can distort your clear braces.
Be gentle in handling clear braces
When not in use, keep your clear aligners in their case and see to it your hands are clean when handling them. To keep them from being misplaced or thrown away, don’t put them on tissues or napkins. Compared to conventional braces, clear braces’ brackets are more brittle. Avoid using your teeth as tools. If you have the habit to open a pack using your teeth, it is time to cut that habit. Brush and floss gently. When engaging in sports activities, you should inform your orthodontists as they will create a custom-fitted mouthguard.
Be mindful of dietary restrictions
Some foods, especially the ones with color can stain clear braces such as red wines, coffee, dark berries, and tea. Steer clear of chewy, sticky, or firm foods like chewing gum, and nuts. If you happen to ingest these foods, make sure you wash your mouth or rinse it with water. That way staining can be prevented.
Make sure you attend your appointments regularly
To track one’s development and modify the treatment plan as needed, routine dental examinations are crucial. Missing appointments can cause therapy to be delayed and have an impact on the outcome. Additionally, it may permit the accumulation of tartar and plaque on one’s teeth. Adhere to the orthodontist’s daily care instructions and make sure you show up for all of your appointments. Missing even a single dental appointment can have a huge impact on your teeth’s progress. If you are a forgetful person, it would be best if you are going to set an alarm for all your expected dental appointment so as to make sure you will not miss a single one.
